40 people attended the event
at which there was a talk about the
Wildlife Trust Reserve- Coed Y Felin-
given by Adrian Lloyd Jones and
Graham Berry, and a brief talk
on bats by Rhian Hughes.  
Events held at the Royal Oak
A very successful Tapas Evening was held on Tuesday 7th April 2008
with the chef from the Bryn Awel in Mold providing the food.
There was an excellent selection of very tasty Tapas which was enjoyed by all
Residents past and present of the villages of Rhydymwyn and Hendre attended the finale of a two-year project with a
very successful launch of the book "Rhydymwyn and Hendre-A Tale of Two Villages" .in 2009
A working party under the umbrella of Friends of Rhydymwyn Valley with funding from Cadwyn Clwyd produced the  
book which looks at the history of the two neighbouring communities.
The book is in both English and Welsh and covers both the modern and ancient history of the villages.   
The official launch events, took place to packed houses at the Royal Oak Inn, Hendre on Friday 14 August 2009 and at
the Antelope Hotel, Rhydymwyn on Monday 17 August 2009. Both hostelries are featured in the book.
The Oak sold 70 copies of the book on the first night and so far books have gone as far afield as France and Australia

Our annual knockout singles has  been
running now for 17 years.
The winner was Tom Clare with
Andy Holmes from Rhydymwyn runner up

On Saturday 14th June 2014 the Dog Head Music Society & Akashic Sounds
in partnership with Y Dderwen – The Oak
Presented
‘A Rural Musical Gathering’
This event was well attended with some 100+ visitors throughout the day and 15 different groups, poets and individuals
performing on two small stages outside in the beer garden and inside in the lounge.
There was music from around 2.30 to 11pm.
A few people stayed the night camped on the Oak Field
Friday night, June 20th 2014, saw the members of the pool team play each
other for the title of best player in the team. This was won by Andy Holmes with
Chris Parkhurst runner up. The team were also presented with certificates for
their efforts in the Mold League 2013-14 with again Andy Holmes from
Rhydymwyn winning the title best player of the season, Greg Brownbill, formerly
of Hendre was runner up with Meilir Tomos third.
James Holmes won the accolade most improved doubles player with his partner
Huw , while John Parker, from off Halkyn Mountain
won the most improved player accolade.
The captain Dan Moore won the accolade for playing most games,
Mike Holmes the most sporting player.
All in all a very successful night with accolades for local players.
We are now on the lookout for more players to join us
for the winter league season 2014-15,
